Black and White Panache
Every interior design scheme can benefit from a bit of black and white panache, and we have a number of new fall products that make it easy to create a dramatic moment in a room. From furniture and lighting to accessories, we have offerings that fit perfectly within a sophisticated style story, like the Overlay Large Pendant that is shown above and described below.
Black and White Panache
The inverted dome shape of the Thalassa Pendant becomes luminous when it is strung with seaglass. The painstaking patience it takes to assemble a fixture like this makes it an artisanal piece. The sugar white finish on the frame and the aircraft cable from which it hangs make this a light and airy composition that will look beautiful in a contemporary setting or a room with a coastal aesthetic.
The Saxon Black Linear Chandelier is a graceful fixture that extends its undulant arms in such simplicity, it seems to float. The Zanzibar black finish and its slender lines are nods to a bygone era that make this black chandelier a terrific choice for modern farmhouse interiors, and its shape is perfect for above kitchen islands and bars. The fact that the chandelier is hung from a rod rather than a chain modernizes this design. We also have this design in rattan.
The Inyo Wall Sconce was designed by Ian Thornton to be an exemplar of contrast. Fitted with integrated LED bulbs, the illumination bounces off the wall and shines through the natural alabaster discs, which glow. The darker discs are made of black marble, and the metal brads and stem are in a satin black finish. The black and white wall sconce can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
The Sweetheart Wall Sconce is a nature-inspired design by Tom Caldwell. Made of metal in a Gesso white finish, the floral fixture opens its petals to its illumination just as beautifully as a pliable plant. The white wall sconce can be mounted so that the fixture reflects up-light rather than down light if so desired. The Sweetheart was one of our High Point Market bestsellers.
The Tosi Marble Accent Table is a slender, tall black accent table with lines that are both clean and a bit wavy. The tapered legs in a dark graphite finish that matches the top surround give the impression they are smooth from a distance but they reveal they have a subtle waviness to them close-up. Inset into the top is a hexagonal disc of Alaska granite.
The contemporary shape of the Edelmar Table Lamp is sleek but the mix of materials composing it is complex. The body made of black marble that is cinched in the middle by a brass ring rises from an optic crystal base. Adding to the intricacy of the design by Tom Caldwell is the knife-pleated off-white shantung shade. An optic crystal finial completes the overall composition.
The Verona Black Secretary Desk is darkly handsome covered in black lacquered linen with metal detailing in a champagne finish. The stretchers on this black desk create added interest to enhance its flair. The beautifully detailed drawer pulls, which are wrapped in matching material in the middle and left bare on each end, grace each drawer with their metallic sheen. The top folds down on this classic piece to reveal a desktop, a center-adjustable shelf, two fixed shelves, built-in power outlets, and two USB ports. Aimee Kurzner designed the chic piece that also has three large drawers. This piece was among our High Point Market bestsellers.
The impressively sized gold flower pull on the Briallen White Nightstand is a stunning ornamentation. A bright accent on the cerused white oak, the brass floral motif in a brass finish brings the white nightstand a sophisticated feel and illustrates the skill of our artisans who hand-cast the handle in brass. The two drawers on the nightstand are soft-close.
Drawing his inspiration from the mid-century modern era, Tom Caldwell designed the Jebel Table Lamp from turned stone elements with incredible personality. The aluminum details in a brushed-brass finish contribute to the warmth of this black lamp's profile, as does the beige linen shade from under which slight pull-chains dangle.
The Overlay Large Pendant is an artisanal creation that is painstakingly made by hand, as each of the leaves are individually cut and welded to the frame and the dots on the edges of the spiky cut-outs are welded on. The elongated-dome shape of the white pendant has a sartorial feel thanks to the textural richness of the fluted edges flowing downward like a couture wedding dress would. We also have a bell-shaped version of this fixture.
The ultra-contemporary lines on each of the Black & White Penguin sculptures create pared-down profiles that have just as much personality as the tottering marine birds. As whimsical as they are modern, the black and white sculptures are carved from soapstone and honed to a smoothness that creates a nice sheen. The surfaces of the objects will vary from piece to piece given the sculptures are made of natural stone.
The Charles Objet is a white sculpture with a modernist feel. The black stone base on which it is mounted is a contrasting element that brings the work of art a contemporary feel. Made of cast aluminum, the sculpture has a white gesso finish that is surprisingly textural given the mold into which the molten metal was poured had a stippled interior to result in an intentionally rough surface.
The hand-painted black and white stripes that flow down the Rayures Tea Canister Set make them classic accessories. The antique brass rings painted at the bottom of the jars and at the bottom of the caps bring an uptick in luxury to their profiles. Though the mid-century modern era is echoed in the design of these stylish vessels, tea canisters have existed since antiquity.
The Snowfall Semi-Flush is made of wrought iron in a gesso white finish. Given it is made from resolute metal, it is a remarkably graceful design. Ian Thornton envisioned the white semi-flush to mimic the way snow sticks to branches after a winter storm, which turn ethereal when the sun effervesces on them. "The branches taper as they would in nature," he says. "I feel this fixture has a nice sense of movement."
Happy Halloween!
