Decorative Planters Galore!

It’s the first full week of summer and we’re rolling out decorative planters from large to small, each seriously artisanal! Whether you need a cachepot for a small houseplant, a very large garden planter with a Mediterranean twist, or a medium sized faux-bois creation, we have you covered as the sun heats up and entertaining moves out-of-doors. First up are our newest planters just launched this spring.

Decorative Planters for Every Purpose

Among our new offerings is the Square Faux Bois Planter. The flowing twig-like details along the ribbed surface were hand-applied by artisans who “sculpt” the concrete over a metal frame to look like a rustic faux bois artifact. The Portland finish that settles into the natural crevices enhances the illusion of age that will bring a nice hint of texture to indoor or outdoor settings. Ornamented with tree branches, once the concrete planter is sprouting with plants, it will fool the eye into thinking it is a true antique.

Also new are our Celadon Crackle Planters: the Round Planter, far left; and the Basket Planter, far right, flanking the Deer Heads Vase. The hand-thrown porcelain bodies of these beauties have been baked and given a light thermic shock to create the lines serving as the texture in the celadon crackle glaze. Some lines on the pale green planters are darkened with real tea leaves while others are covered with black calligraphy ink to create depth in the porcelain. The complexity of the process required to create these vessels makes them incredible examples of artisanal expressiveness.

In stock and ready to ship are the Sicilia Antique White Planters in Small, Medium, and Large. Bring the garden indoors (or enhance outdoor spaces) with these vessels that have a strong Mediterranean vibe. Inspired by classic shapes that have been staples in Italian gardens for centuries, the antique white planters have pitting in their terracotta surfaces to create the ruse that they, too, have been tucked away in the landscape for ions. We also have the Sicilia planters in antique blue in Small, Medium, and Large, the Medium and Large both bestsellers.

The Cinisi Small Antique White Planter, shown with the Sicilia Large Antique Blue Drip Planter, which is a bestseller, also has a strong Mediterranean vibe. The Catania Large Antique Blue Drip Planter is also a bestseller. It is shown above with three sizes of the Cinisi planters (Small Antique Blue Drip, Medium Antique Blue Drip, and Large Antique Blue Drip). Made of terracotta with antique white and blue drip overlay, the Catania is a garden ornament, patio pot, or interior accent that looks as if it was left to age for centuries. Whether it has a plant in it or not, it will be a vintage-inspired decorative piece of value.

The Abu Gold Planter is also in the bestseller category. Inspired by a previous whimsical design that has been extremely popular, the planter with its seated ape, molded in cast aluminum, lifts a plant-worthy vessel with little effort. The antique gold finish that covers the piece makes the gold planter read as if it has aged. The texture that is inherent in metal poured into molds in a foundry is evident on this piece, which brings it a vintage flair. It is best to use a liner with the solid metal planter when a pot has a drain hole.

The Sunken Boat Small White Cachepot is made by a group of women who live at the border of Burma and Thailand. The black terracotta has a moss white glazing covering it and pits in the glazing, the result making the ivory planter feel as if it has been reclaimed from a sunken boat after having spent years in the deep sea. All ruffles on these vessels are done by hand in the pinch method, which is a painstaking process. We also have this design in an extra-small, shown above as well.

With a surface that is studded with beautifully fashioned white flowers, the Jessamine Medium White Cachepot is truly an artisanal piece. Rather than apply one type of bloom, a number of floral shapes are intermingled to give the white decorative accessory added charm. The handmade character of the piece comes from the fact that each flower is created individually and applied, one-by-one, by hand. The white planter will be a plant's biggest complement. Made of ceramic with swirling and dripping patterns in blue reactive glazes, the drifts of color will be slightly different from vessel to vessel.
