Red, White, and Blue Accents
The Fourth of July is upon us so we thought we’d have a little fun and present what’s new and tried-and-true in red, white, and blue accents for nearly every room style! From glass and ceramic to bone and marble, we literally have something in the famous triad of colors for everyone!
Red, White, and Blue Accents
Among our new offerings is the Kallista Blue Credenza with a dark sapphire blue finish that enlivens the sycamore veneers cladding its doors. These are set into a caviar black credenza sitting atop a metal base in an antique brass finish, which matches the tone of tailored door pulls. The way the wood veneers are applied brings depth, texture, and movement to this navy-blue credenza that is dressy enough for the most sophisticated home office and the most refined business settings. Aimee Kurzner designed this beautiful credenza, which is shown in the vignette above.
We have an array of new accessories in red, white, and blue, the Cristos Marble Bust Sculpture among them. Creating the feel of flowing fabric from marble is a feat, as is evidenced by the sculpture. Carved from different types of Italian marble, the Roman bust was inspired by the antiquity period of that great empire. The style of the base on which the bust sits is aesthetically in keeping with an antique sculpture. The color of the marble that makes up the clothing on the red sculpture will make it a focal point in a room.
Also new this spring is the Sugar Cube Vase, a playful composition made of ceramic that is enlivened with squares shaped like sugar cubes, thus the name. The white glaze on the surface of the squares leaves certain edges of the white cubes unglazed so that a hint of the color of the natural material brings texture to the vase. This is one of the most artisanal aspects achieved by talented ceramicists. The way the cubes build and expand toward the top is a lovely aspect of this design.
The Ocean Blue Corolla Vase, Medium Temple Jar, and Dear Ears Vase are decorative blue vases with their roots far in the past. The pieces are made of clay sourced from the area surrounding the kilns that produced objects for the Imperial estate during the heyday of the dynasties. The formulas to achieve the particular blue on the surface of the vases is a secret one guarded by ceramicist families devoted to the single color. This striking blue is very rarely seen in porcelain. We also offer the Ocean Blue pieces in a long-neck vase, a ginger jar, and a large temple jar.
Serenity has a profile in the Lilou Red Table Lamp with its lovely vase-like profile. Made of porcelain, the red surface has a luster to it for which this time-honored material is known. The depth of the red is luscious and warm, complemented by the metal hardware and base in an antique brass finish. A light element to the composition is the eggshell shantung drum shade, which is fastened in place with an antique brass finial. The Lilou is one of our most popular designs by Tom Caldwell.
A kicky take on the palm motif, the Las Palmas White Armchair designed by Marjorie Skouras is every hostess's answer to a contemporary coastal chair that will serve as stylish seating in any number of spaces. Made of wrought iron, the white chair is one of Skouras' pieces that reflects her passion for the Yucatan. The surroundings in which she lives and through which she translates the flora and fauna into dynamic products in her studio, shine in this metal chair in a crisp gesso white finish.
The Deep Sea Large Vase, shown above with the Medium Vase, is made by a group of women who live at the border of Burma and Thailand. Made from black terracotta, this incredible hand-thrown, dark blue vase is completely covered in handmade ornamentations that look like small barnacles. Once the decorative elements are in place, the vase is glazed with a rich deep blue that provides this decorative accessory with its depth and personality.
The Rosso Red Glass Vase is made of Venetian mouth-blown glass into which glass pieces and beads in a vibrant array of colors have been embedded, providing the surface of the red vase with a highly textural feel. This piece is extremely difficult to make because the glass is very dense, illustrated by how heavy the vase is, which makes it more challenging to blow. As one artist is accomplishing this task, another throws the small bits of glass onto its surface. Timing is key: too early and the pieces melt; too late and they will not adhere.
Creating the feel of flowing hair from marble is a feat, as is evidenced by the Hector Marble Bust Sculpture. Carved from white marble, the two-sided sculpture was inspired by Greek mythology, one side showing a youthful face while the reverse side presents the same person who has aged significantly. Because each side has its own dynamic personality, this is a wonderful white marble sculpture to place on an entry table or to position in a spot where it can be seen from both sides.
The Blue & White Optical Tea Jar Set includes two lidded canisters with luminous brass rings running the circumference of the bottom, the top, and along each edge where the lid meets the jar. The electric blue pattern that dynamically crisscrosses the surface of each jar is painted by hand. Proving that these pieces are artisanal in their creation, the brushstrokes are evident in the blue pattern. Though these blue decorative jars were inspired by centuries-old designs made for the storage of tea leaves, they have a surprisingly contemporary feel.
The Jocasta Red Table Lamp is a classic shape in a surprising material. Made of clear red glass and metal in a brass finish, the luminous piece will bring a pop of color into a space whether the red table lamp is switched on or not. A design detail of note is how beautifully the glass base fits into the brass ring that connects it to the body, one that illustrates the talent of our glass artisans.
Happy Independence Day!
