Accessorizing with Decorative Boxes
Nashville-based interior designer Evan Millard created a bedroom in the most recent “Home for the Holidays Showhouse” this past December, which we featured in a previous post that highlights the space and shares a bit more about this talented designer. He tapped a number of products for his rooms, including our Malaga Small and Large Decorative Boxes, which he displayed in the beautiful glass-front cabinet shown above. We asked Evan why he feels accessorizing with decorative boxes is a smooth move.
Accessorizing with Decorative Boxes

He told us: “Growing up I remember having boxes of all shapes and sizes—from a small wooden box to an avocado vintage ice cooler—they all held objects that I treasured. Today, as an interior designer, they not only help to organize and hold client’s prized possessions, but also add a layer of interest, and give one’s eyes a place to rest. They’re the perfect accessory to add an element of surprise!”
Our Malaga Small and Large Boxes are perfect for accessorizing with decorative boxes.
Our Malaga boxes that he chose, which are made of black agate, are among our bestselling decorative boxes. The clean-lined designs with snug-fitting tops in natural stone patterning are rich and dynamic. We’re thrilled he chose these pieces given he focuses on creating jewel-box like experiences that bring joy and excitement to his client’s lives.
Among our new offerings introduced this winter, is our Deanna Box Set made of intricately woven ivory raffia with black leather tops, and light antique brass handles and hinges. The interiors of the black and ivory boxes are lined with beige micro suede for a luxurious feel. The uniformity of the weave on these boxes is created during a painstaking artisanal process.
The Alfeo Box Set includes large and small decorative boxes made of solid wood with surface treatments in herringbone patterns. The artisanal beauty of these decorative accessories is hard-won because the pieces of wood are hand-applied. The color variations inherent in the natural wood will also mean that each box is unique. Furthering the hand-crafted feel is how the pattern extends all the way through to the outside rims. This pair makes accessorizing with decorative boxes simple and stress-free.
The Carmine Box is sophisticated enough to instantly become a family heirloom passed from generation to generation because the entire decorative accessory is made of valued natural materials. The white rectangles affixed to the surface of the black and white box are made of camel bone while the black rectangles are made of horn. The fact that these are applied to solid wood construction ensures the Carmine is sturdy enough to be passed from household to household.
An exquisite example of artistry, the Felice Box Set includes small and large boxes, each of which took hours upon hours to create. Onto a solid construct made of Sheesham wood are affixed fluted, looping shapes of solid bone set into matching frames. The natural color of the material means there will be subtle tonal variations that will make each of these decorative boxes unique. The sizes were created so they nest beautifully.
The Currey & Company Bindu Box Set includes sophisticated accents for interiors.
Aimee Kurzner designed the Bindu Box Set to be a modernist-inspired accent in a space. Made of pieces of black composite and buffalo horn, which is chiseled to bring the surface added texture, the ivory and black decorative boxes will make a statement wherever they are placed. The interiors are lined with linen, and both large and small boxes have a felt bottom to complete the feeling of fine detailing. The boxes are shown above with the Bindu Round Mirror.
The Deena Marble Box is geometrically sophisticated. The white and pietra gray marble are juxtaposed against each other in a dynamic way: the two dark sides are topped with a triangle in the same color, and it is the same with the white. Slicing through the middle of the top to separate the two is a brass inlay on slant. The solid marble decorative box has mitered joints and a composite coating on the bottom to keep it from scratching surfaces.
The Tia Box Set includes two decorative accessories in small and larg sizes. The offset brick pattern that runs along the sides and tops are made of white bone and wood to bring the brown decorative boxes a refined sense of movement that resembles piano keys. Both boxes are linen-lined and the designer Aimee Kurzner points out that there are brass pins on the inside that ensure the pattern stays aligned. This is one of our products that makes accessorizing with decorative boxes a snap!
The mix of rich green irregularly shaped pieces of bone set into crisp white composite brings the Emerald Box Set a painterly surface. The pattern on the small and large green decorative boxes, which reads to the eye like naïve brushstrokes, makes this a bold addition to a vignette on any table, and the exquisite construction makes them beautiful desk accessories. This is one of our bestselling sets of decorative boxes.
With bold patterns that match on all sides, the Cade Black Box Set includes two nesting boxes that are made of solid wood covered in composite in black and white patterns. The intermingling of thin and thick delineations creates a telescoping effect that brings the surfaces of these boxes the feel that they are in constant movement. The application is a painstaking one. We also offer the Cade in black as a decorative tray, and as boxes in blue and white.
The Glimmer Blue Green Box Set includes two decorative boxes that nest inside each other. The exteriors of these boxes are textural, as they are made of a mosaic of broken-glass bangle bracelets from India that were in pieces when they were hand-applied. The uniformity of the surface requires a painstaking process that takes hours to achieve. The mosaic is applied to a wood structure and the interiors of both boxes are wrapped in linen. We also offer gold decorative boxes in this design.
The Arrow Box Set, designed by Jamie Beckwith, is based on a strong graphic shape that comes alive with the contrast of bone and composite in ivory and black along the surface. Originally created in bold patterns for vertical and horizontal surfaces, Beckwith says of the Arrow, “This is a unique take on a chevron pattern. I was inspired by original French chevron parquets and this pattern is an updated version of that. There is a classic feel to this graphic shape with a modern take. It provides a strong underlying structure that bonds all the elements of a room together.” There are a number of offerings in this family of products.
Accomplished with a beautiful technique inspired by artisans in Syria and Persia, our Persian Box Set is covered in a mosaic of mango wood and natural bone in a marquetry pattern that is authentic in design to the original artisanal pieces. The strong geometric patterns that flow along the surfaces of each box will make them dynamic additions to a space. Not how the patterns flow seamlessly from the tops to the bottoms so that the diamond shapes are never broken.
Mixing chiseled horn with composite brings the Derian Box Set a nice luminous texture. The striations on the surfaces of the pair of decorative boxes, which nest inside each other, are achieved when artisans take chisels and put them on angle as they are hammering the lines into the surface of the horn. The black and white diamond shapes are clean, contrasting elements. We also offer the Derian as a decorative tray. The pair of textural accents makes accessorizing with decorative boxes stress-free.
Textural Felicity
The Sky Blue Box Set in this vignette illustrates how the textural artistry adds character to a space.
As you can see from this image that includes our Sky Blue Box Set, accessorizing with decorative boxes is an easy way to add character to a space. You can also see why it is one of our bestselling sets given it illustrates the talents of the artisans who created the surfaces. The mosaics in white and blue bone are painstakingly arranged and affixed in triangular-shaped segments with a patina washed on each top. They are fresh elements in this vignette against a lovely wallpaper by Thibaut.
