Rattan Accents for Elemental Warmth

As we slip into August, nature is on everyone’s mind, whether it’s taking a hike, spending a day at the beach, or boating on the lake. Bringing the same earthiness into your interiors is remarkably easy when you choose rattan accents for elemental warmth. We have a number of new products made from this hearty material known for its prolific growth and textural beauty. The curving lines of the Samsara chandelier above illustrates how adept our artisans are at sculpting rattan into fascinating shapes.

Choose Rattan Accents for Elemental Warmth

The Currey & Company Samsara Rattan Chandelier is one of the company’s rattan accents for elemental warmth.

The Samsara Chandelier is an overscale fixture made from thick reeds of rattan that encase the wire running through the fixture. Bending rattan this thick takes great skill and effort. In order to keep the aesthetics of the chandelier clean, the candle sleeves and hardware are in a saddle tan finish, and the thinner reeds that wrap these in place are tonally in sync. The Samsara will be a dynamic element in a coastal setting and is a strong entrant for a natural material story.

The Currey & Company Anisa Sea Sand Etagere is new for spring 2023.

The Anisa Sea Sand Etagere has a trick up its sleeve: because the frame that is covered in oak veneer is fitted with rattan cane panels, it is artfully attractive from all sides. The larger rattan sections are in a radio weave and the smaller ones in an open weave to mix it up and bring the tan etagere a dynamic textural quality. The cohesiveness of the straw-colored materials sets this tan etagere in a natural style story.

The Currey & Company Wanstead Ivory Wall Sconce is one of the company’s rattan accents for elemental warmth.

Achieving a traditional lantern shape entirely from rattan is a feat, one that was beautifully realized when artisans wove the Wanstead Ivory Wall Sconce from the natural material, slicing the normal depth in half while retaining the charm of the style. Both the thin and thick ribs intermingling to create the rattan lantern have been bleached to lighten the design. The antique Pearl finish on the hardware enhances the airiness of the beige sconce's profile.

The Currey & Company Anisa Black Storage Bench is new for spring 2023.

The Anisa Black Storage Bench, covered in Trailside Natural Instinct Safari fabric, combines several weaving techniques. The natural oak form in a caviar black finish is fitted with rattan cane panels, while the larger rattan sections are done in a radio weave and the smaller ones in an open weave. Not only does this mix it up texturally, it adds interest to this piece that was designed by Aimee Kurzner. The parchment-colored seat and the plinth base on which it sits places this firmly in a natural and black style story. The generous size of the storage area will make it a favorite go-to spot for storing linens, toys or other accessories.

The Currey & Company Santos Sea Sand Rectangular Cabinet is one of the company’s rattan accents for elemental warmth.

The Santos Sea Sand Rectangular Cabinet has a split rattan pattern on the doors, sides, and top, which is made by hand and applied to a solid mahogany frame. Then a Sea Sand finish is applied to the entire piece. A design detail of note is how the brass pulls sit squarely in the center of the layered circles created by the pattern. This tan cabinet was designed by Aimee Kurzner.

The Currey & Company Beehive 30-Light Multi-Drop Pendant is a popular rattan product.

The Beehive 30-Light Multi-Drop Pendant has rattan bell-shaped shades. Because the natural material is not perfectly uniform, there are fissures in the shades that allow illumination to escape to create a warm glow. The canopy of this piece is luminous in a painted silver finish. This fixture is among Currey & Company's multi-drop pendant collection, which includes multiple configurations.

The Currey & Company Santos Sea Sand Rectangular Mirror is one of the company’s rattan accents for elemental warmth.

The Santos Sea Sand Rectangular Mirror is handmade of rattan, the rounded shapes extremely difficult to achieve with such a strong material. Then a sea sand finish covers the entire frame; the subtle patina it brings to the tan decorative mirror another design detail worth noting. The beveled edges on the mirror are also done by hand, and there are two cleats on the back so that it can be hung vertically or horizontally.

The Currey & Company Silang Rattan Console Table is a popular rattan product.

Our Silang Console Table is a rattan console table with a handmade geometric pattern on the top. Artisans painstakingly cut and fit the reeds in place to create this artful arrangement in the plant's warm hues. The material is protected by an inset glass top. We also offer the Silang as a drinks table.

The Currey & Company Saisei Grande Chandelier is one of the company’s rattan accents for elemental warmth.

Hiroshi Koshitaka envisioned the Saisei Grande Chandelier as one of a number of fixtures he sees as fulfilling the concept that encompasses the acts involved in regeneration and reproduction as we restore, revive, and experience regrowth and rebirth. Rattan flows artfully around a spiral wrought iron frame in a khaki finish, which is tonally in sync with the natural color of the material. The otherworldly shape of this rattan chandelier was inspired by outer space - galaxies in the universe come to light.

The Currey & Company Tegal Natural Chair is a popular rattan product.

The Tegal Natural Chair is made of solid rattan using a very traditional rattan construction technique. But instead of thinner reeds, the ties on this rattan bench are made of leather. The chair, which will fast become a favorite in a variety of spaces including sunrooms and beachside living rooms, has a name inspired by a city in Central Java, an Indonesian country known for fine rattan craftsmanship. The natural material has a Sea Sand on Rattan finish. We offer the natural Tegal as a bench, and have a chair in navy.

The Currey & Company Teahouse 2-Tier Pendant is one of the company’s rattan accents for elemental warmth.

The shade of the Teahouse 2-Tier Pendant is made of rattan. The ribs of the natural material are staggered top and bottom to bring the shape of the shade added interest. The metal stem in a khaki finish mimics the width of the stems for a refined feel. The designer of the tan pendant, Ian Thornton, points out that the finish on the metal reflects the warmth of the rattan when light shines through it.

The Currey & Company Persephone Wall Sconce is a popular rattan product.

The Persephone Wall Sconce, named for the goddess of the harvest in Greek Mythology, is as earthy as her domain. From a central disk of wrought iron in a contemporary gold leaf finish fan natural rattan rods that are sewn together with artful loops of copper wire. The light shines against the wall to cast patterns where the rods intersect on this down-to-earth sunray sconce that is fitted with integrated LED. This sconce can also be placed on the ceiling for use as a semi-flush-mount fixture.
