From the moment market opens on April 21st until it closes on Wednesday, April 26th, stop by and see the exhibition titled La Vida es Bella: Mexican Modernist Textiles from The Marjorie Skouras Collection. Marjorie has collected over 200 textiles and we will be featuring 24 vintage Mexican dresses from the 1970s that she has handpicked for us. Marjorie’s interest in these fashion statements began when she bought a ruined 19th-century colonial mansion in Merida, Mexico, in 2015. While the collection began simply as a passion for the pieces themselves, Marjorie became so enthralled, she began researching the dress makers/designers in order to understand their inspirations. You can read more about how she began this project in this blog post.

One of the Currey & Company events during High Point Market Month is a Bonsai tour with Brownlee Currey.

On Friday, April 21st, at 3 p.m., our President Brownley Currey will have an encore of his very popular Bonsai tour—Bonsai With Brownlee Currey Part 2. With the success of our bonsai tour last October, he will continue to share and explore the ancient techniques of bonsai with a tour of our collection of live bonsai trees that are always displayed in the Currey showroom during market. There’s definitely more to learn from our resident bonsai master so be sure and stop by.

We’ll also have giveaways during this event that you won’t want to miss, as Brownlee has created plantings in an array of soulful face planters. You must enter to win during the Bonsai tour from 3 to 5 p.m. and you must be present to take the plant with you. One of the Currey & Company events during High Point Market Month is an Anti-Defamation League celebration.

And at 5 p.m. on the 21st, please join us as Michel Smith Boyd, Irwin Novack, and Rachel Stewart are honored by the National Home Furnishings Industry’s chapter of the Anti-Defamation League for their efforts to bring awareness to the mission of the ADL. This dynamic trio will be the organization’s 2023 honorees. You’ll also learn more about the ADL and how you can participate in creating a more inclusive society for all. Their powerful discussion will center around “Fighting Hate for Good.”

As one of their High Point Market events, Currey & Company will have a pop-up with Michel Smith Boyd.

On Saturday, April 22nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will feature a Pop-Up with Michel Smith Boyd, who will have his MSB Bespoke Collection, a home-fragrance line of products, for sale. Stop by to enjoy the aroma of the Signature Scent created by this noted Atlanta interior designer and TV celebrity. He will be available to share his philosophy behind this new home fragrance line and the importance of a scent to complete the narrative of a well-designed space.

Currey & Company will unveil new introductions by Marjorie Skouras in spring 2023.

On Saturday at 3 p.m., we will take a tour of our new additions to the Marjorie Skouras Collection and discuss her “La Vida Es Bella: Mexican Modernist Textiles” collection that will be exhibited in the showroom. Currey & Company will be one of three showrooms visited by Nature x Design during market.

On Sunday, April 23rd, there will be a first during Market—the Nature x Design tour will take place in three different showrooms, including ours. Linda Kafka, WELL AP, and Mike Peterson, who founded the Science in Design brand, will be leading the tour that is dubbed “A Biophilic Product Tour for Designers.” The event begins at The Point at the intersection of Commerce Avenue and Main Street at 9:30 a.m. and will culminate at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch. The leaders of the tour will explore the benefits of biophilic design to reduce stress, improve cognitive performance, and support overall client well-being, and each attendee will receive a Biophilic Toolkit. We’re thrilled to be a part of this event given our drive to be more sustainable and to include more nature-inspired products in our lineup. You can register here.

Currey & Company will showcase a panel discussion during High Point Market

Also on Sunday, April 23rd, join us for a panel discussion titled “Creativity, A Diverse Perspective” from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at The Point, which is just around the corner from the Currey showroom on Commerce and Main. High Point University professor and interior designer, Gary Inman, will moderate this panel on the creative process. Panelists are Marjorie Skouras, Michel Smith Boyd, and Alejandra Thompson de Jordan. Each will share insights on their unique creative approach to interior design, product design, and other aesthetic activities. The panel will explore the diverse careers of three successful designers and, in doing so, reveal the true essence of creativity. A reception will follow in the Currey & Company showroom.

A book signing with Janie Molster with be one of Currey & Company’s High Point Market events.

And on Sunday, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., we will hold a book signing for House Dressing: Interiors For Colorful Living by Janie Molster. The Richmond-based designer will share her creative philosophy as she signs the lush coffee table book, published by Monacelli Press (and now in its third printing), which will be on sale. For more than two decades, Janie has been creating family homes that are bold and sophisticated, as well as inviting and practical. In her book she showcases a range of projects that include country cottages, a riverside retreat, and her own urban farmhouse. We’ll share more about this dynamic book on the blog soon.

Currey & Company will introduce new products by Suzanne Duin during HPMkt.

On Monday, April 24th, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., we’ll celebrate our newest designer collaboration and debut new products by Suzanne Duin. You can meet the Houston-based interior designer and antiques dealer as we take a tour of her new lighting collection for Currey & Company. Suzanne’s designs are inspired by years of travel to France as she collected antiques and they pay homage to her love of woven natural fibers, which include rattan and water hyacinth, from which many of her new introductions are made. She believes that every family home requires the elements of warmth that only nature can bring. These new designs fit perfectly with the Currey & Company aesthetic and our sustainability efforts.

Currey & Company will be holding High Point Market events in their showroom this spring.
