High Point Market Bound!

If you missed last week’s post, we featured the first set of events we’re holding as everyone flocks to HP Mkt. Today, we’re filling readers in on the second set of happenings just before we are all High Point Market bound! Please make your way to our showroom at IHFC M110 on Main Street and enjoy the lively atmosphere, yummy food, and refreshing libations—oh, and we must not forget the incredible array of new products and a fashion exhibition to boot!

We’re High Point Market Bound!

Michel Smith Boyd will have a pop-up in the Currey & Company showroom as the design industry is High Point Market bound.

On Saturday, April 22nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will feature a Pop-Up with Michel Smith Boyd, who will have his MSB Bespoke Collection, a home-fragrance line of products, for sale. Stop by to enjoy the aroma of the Signature Scent created by this noted Atlanta interior designer and TV celebrity. He will be available to share his philosophy behind this new home fragrance line and the importance of a scent to complete the narrative of a well-designed space.

The “La Vida Es Bella: Mexican Modernist Textiles” collection will be on view in the Currey & Company High Point showroom during spring market.

On Saturday at 3 p.m., we will take a tour of our new additions to the Marjorie Skouras Collection and discuss her “La Vida Es Bella: Mexican Modernist Textiles” collection that will be exhibited in the showroom. Join us as we debut 12 new lighting and furniture designs by this lively designer and learn more about how her products were inspired by her life in the Yucatan. An added bonus is the exhibition of 24 vintage Mexican dresses from the 1970s. Ms. Skouras’ interest in these dresses began when she bought a 19th-century colonial mansion in Merida, Mexico, in 2015. The collection began simply as a passion for the pieces but soon expanded to researching the dress makers and their inspiration from Mexican art and culture of the 1960s and 1970s reflecting the surrealist, modern, and pop art movements of that era. The exhibition will be open throughout April High Point Market.

Currey & Company will be one of three showrooms visited by Nature x Design during market.

On Sunday, April 23rd, there will be a first during Market—the Nature x Design tour will take place in three different showrooms, including ours. Linda Kafka, WELL AP, and Mike Peterson, who founded the Science in Design brand, will be leading the tour that is dubbed “A Biophilic Product Tour for Designers.” The event begins at The Point at the intersection of Commerce Avenue and Main Street at 9:30 a.m. and will culminate at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch. The leaders of the tour will explore the benefits of biophilic design to reduce stress, improve cognitive performance, and support overall client well-being, and each attendee will receive a Biophilic Toolkit. We’re thrilled to be a part of this event given our drive to be more sustainable and to include more nature-inspired products in our lineup. You can register here.

Currey & Company is sponsoring a panel discussion titled “Creativity, A Diverse Perspective as the design industry is High Point Market bound.

Also on Sunday, join us for a panel discussion titled “Creativity, A Diverse Perspective” from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at The Point, which is just around the corner from the Currey showroom on Commerce and Main. High Point University professor and interior designer, Gary Inman, will moderate this panel on the creative process. Panelists are Marjorie Skouras, Michel Smith Boyd, and Alejandra Thompson de Jordan. Each will share insights on their unique creative approach to interior design, product design, and other aesthetic activities. The panel will explore the diverse careers of three successful designers and, in doing so, reveal the true essence of creativity. A reception will follow in the Currey & Company showroom.

In the Currey & Company showroom during High Point Market, Janie Molster will hold a book signing for House Dressing: Interiors For Colorful Living.

And on Sunday, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., we will hold a book signing for House Dressing: Interiors For Colorful Living by Janie Molster. The Richmond-based designer will share her creative philosophy as she signs the lush coffee table book, published by Monacelli Press (and now in its third printing), which will be on sale. For more than two decades, Janie has been creating family homes that are bold and sophisticated, as well as inviting and practical. In her book she showcases a range of projects that include country cottages, a riverside retreat, and her own urban farmhouse. We’ll share more about this dynamic book on the blog soon.

Currey & Company will celebrate a new collection by Suzanne Duin as the design industry is High Point Market bound.

On Monday, April 24th, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., we’ll celebrate our newest designer collaboration and debut new products by Suzanne Duin. You can meet the Houston-based interior designer and antiques dealer as we take a tour of her new lighting collection for Currey & Company. Suzanne’s designs are inspired by years of travel to France as she collected antiques and they pay homage to her love of woven natural fibers, which include rattan and water hyacinth, from which many of her new introductions are made. She believes that every family home requires the elements of warmth that only nature can bring. These new designs fit perfectly with the Currey & Company aesthetic and our sustainability efforts.
