Dark and Dreamy Furnishings

Now that the sun is shining a bit brighter (in a number of ways), we thought we’d take a counterintuitive approach to today’s blog post and bring our readers dark and dreamy furnishings! Making the list is a sophisticated array of furniture and lighting in dark finishes and black accessories with contrasting adornments.

An Array of Dark and Dreamy Furnishings

First up, we look at a few winter releases that fit into this category:

The Let Us Twist the Glass Vases in round and tall are luminous beauties in black with splashes of blue. Made of ceramic with a jet-black glazing ornamented with patinated patches of pale blue, the black vases illustrate the skill of our artisans who blow and glaze our glass products.

The profile of the Salerio Chandelier is as classic as arm-chandelier shapes come but there’s a modern edge to the brown chandelier thanks to the clean lines and the optic crystal accents. These serve as the central cog from which the arms extend and the bobeches. The painted rich brown finish is a luxe touch.

The sophistication of artfully cut horn brings our Gregor Table Lamp a tailored feel, as does the very small brass rope-wire inlay. The horn that has been applied to the dark brown table lamp is chiseled, a skill that takes our artisans years to perfect. We also offer the Gregor as small and large decorative mirrors—each piece an example of our dark and dreamy furnishings.

The Power of Dark Tones in Home Décor

Now for earlier releases that have been dark and dreamy head-turners since we released them:

The Tirtoff Chandelier is the perfect juxtaposition of shapes and hues. Made of wrought iron in a mix of satin black and sugar white finishes, the black and white chandelier lifts perfect white discs that hide the illumination. The shape, and the black-and-white color combo, give this chandelier a slight Art Deco air that inspired us to name it after the famous artist Romain de Tirtoff. We also offer the Tirtoff as a wall sconce.

The Grand Lotus Black Large Chandelier receives its majestic good looks from a combination of stunning workmanship and a mix of satin black and contemporary gold leaf finishes. The black chandelier is skillfully fashioned from wrought iron. We also offer the fixture in a number of sizes and finishes.

Our Moderne Black Wall Sconce is a study in contrasts, from its rounded and straight forms to its interplay of blacksmith and contemporary gold leaf finishes. Tom Caldwell, its creator, said the black and gold sconce was inspired by old movie theater wall sconces: “They are smaller scaled than the old-school lighting, and they feature gold leaf accents on both the white and black versions.” He also notes they create a wonderful ambient light on the walls of any room.

The Winkworth Black Table Lamp has a porcelain body with a chattering affect on the top portion. The designer of the gold and black lamp, Tom Caldwell, explains this is achieved with a handheld chisel and a potter’s wheel prior to firing, which is a unique ability of our artisans. The black shantung shade has a gold foil lining to add warmth to its luminosity, which makes it a fine example of the dark and dreamy furnishings we produce.

Our Trompette Floor Lamp is made of cast aluminum in an antique brass finish. Fashionable notes on this dark-hued floor lamp include the flaring at the base, the placement of the small orbs midway up the stem, and the shape of the larger bulge as it meets the black shantung shade.

The Castille Demi-Lune Table is clad in pieces of charcoal gray faux shagreen delineated by strips of natural maple. The pattern accentuates the lines of the table base as it flows up to the top to form a wedge-shaped pattern. The dark gray console table is in our Denise McGaha Collection.

The Verona Black Chest is darkly handsome covered in black lacquered linen with metal detailing in a champagne finish. The stretchers on this minimalist chest bring it its flair. There are a number of pieces in the Verona family, each of them examples of our dark and dreamy furnishings in both black and brown finishes.

Aimee Kurzner was inspired by a vintage Swedish Gustavian design when she envisioned the Ines Peppercorn Black Arm Chair. Rather than the traditional pale gray you’d expect, she’s created a dark beauty with this version of the chair that has a mahogany frame in a caviar black finish ornamented with antique gold accents. The black chair is upholstered in F0228 Appeal Peppercorn fabric. We also offer the Ines Peppercorn Black in a side chair, and the Ines family includes a lighter finish as an arm and a side chair.

The Duke Wall Sconce is finished in deep Zanzibar black with Zanzibar gold leaf accents. This incredibly detailed and opulent black wall sconce is a true masterpiece that was inspired by historical designs. The Duke is included in our Winterthur Collection.

The Karlson Credenza is made of solid oak covered with natural vellum veneer. The caviar black finish on the frame complements the artful pattern on the doors. Soft-close hinges, eight adjustable shelves, adjustable glides, a center foot with a leveler, cord management, and anti-tip kit make this tan and black credenza a well-made choice for our dark and dreamy furnishings category.

The chic pattern on our Black and White Lines Boxes is created when composite is painted and hand-cut, the material then overlaid on a Mango wood structure. The contemporary feel of these decorative boxes is a new approach of contemporary design in handicrafts in India. These white and black boxes, which come in a set of two, will bring a polished gleam to any room in which they are placed.

A dark beauty, our Teagan Onyx Chair has a handsome cane back and a beech wood frame, both in a caviar black finish. Resonating with the glossy dark tones, the F0152 Mixology Onyx fabric, which is made up of 80 percent poly and 20 percent rayon, adds to the texture of this black chair with its crosshatched patterning. This is definitely a perfect example of the dark and dreamy furnishings we produce. We also offer the Teagan as a bench.
